From August 8 until November 1, 2026 explore Downtown Portland on a new sculpture trail - Wildwood: Follow the Crows, featuring 30 hand-painted crow sculptures inspired by LAIKA’s upcoming stop-motion fantasy film Wildwood.

As a maker, I very much identify with crows' love of collecting shiny and interesting bits of things. Quilters refer to their fabric supply as their "stash", so I wanted to capture the joy of using one's collection to make a special quilt out of carefully curated pieces of fabric, lovingly handsewn together. The amount of love and thought that goes into a handmade quilt is why they are so special to receive, like you are being given a piece of the maker to hold and wrap around yourself.

This crow is a celebration of collections and features not only small bits and pieces that crows have treasured (and snacked on), but also an assortment of images from around Doernbecher Children's Hospital in honor of its 100th anniversary of caring for children. Can you find all of the nature icons from the hospital signs? The animals past and present who bring joy to patients, families, and staff with their frequent visits? Doernbecher is a place that gathers us all and wraps us in its healing embrace, just like a quilt made up of all our favorite things.
